May 26, 2026
On Tuesday May 12, we were joined virtually by Erika Mazza, MBTA Senior Advisor on special projects. The briefing focused on the MBTA's preparation for summer 2026 and more specifically World Cup. This briefing provided transit updates as well as an overview of key dates and events.
The MBTA has committed to providing train service for 20,000 people per match, with trips lasting under 60 minutes, with 15 minute headways beginning 4 hours prior to match-time until 90 minutes before kickoff. Return trips will begin 30 minutes post match, and continue 3-4 hours post game. The MBTA has constructed an 800 foot temporary boarding platform at Boston stadium to accommodate this increased passenger volume. In addition there will be extended late night bus and subway service. The MBTA has been working with Google and Waze to coordinate mapping and enhanced wayfinding.
A key focus on MBTA preparation is ensuring safety and security for all attendees beginning at South Station to Boston Stadium using enhanced checkpoints.
