Mission
Our Mission
A Better City (ABC) is an independent, membership-based organization that improves the economic competitiveness and quality of life of the Boston region by advancing significant transportation, land development and environmental policies, projects and initiatives. ABC works to anticipate the challenges facing the region today and into the future. We mobilize the business community and work together with both civic and government sectors to take action.
Demonstrated Leadership
Founded in 1989, ABC is one of the region's most influential planning, research and project-based organizations; playing a major role in shaping the Boston area's new central highway network, open spaces and transportation system. ABC has a strong history of success; working effectively with state and local partners to ensure that Boston remained open for business during the construction of the Central Artery tunnel mega project. Today we are focused on enhancing the viability of our existing infrastructure, identifying and advancing the next set of priority investments and are committed to major public realm, economic growth and sustainability initiatives. Our Board has an established history of civic engagement, representing a broad range of stakeholder interests and industries including: financial services, utilities, legal services, hospitality & tourism, cultural institutions, construction, higher education, healthcare, life sciences, real estate, and environmental services.
Committed To Collaboration
A Better City's Board of Directors is comprised of over 100 leaders from Boston's largest businesses and institutions. Our Board of Directors and staff believe solving problems and developing sustaining strategies comes from a foundation grounded in collaboration. ABC has a long-established, working partnership at the local, state and federal levels. The diversity of industries and expertise represented in our membership enables ABC to lend valuable private sector support, advice, and provide a basis for industry action and leadership. This approach is fundamental to our success in convening leaders and experts to solve problems and steadfastly move the Boston-area forward.
