A Better City would like to extend our gratitude to Speaker Robert DeLeo, who stepped down from his role last week as leader of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Through his time as Speaker since 2009, he delivered an incredible record of success and productive legislative changes that help produce Greater Boston’s economic growth and continued strength.
In 2014, A Better City awarded Speaker DeLeo the Leventhal Award for Transportation, in part for his role in the passing the 2013 transportation finance bill. This legislation helped to address long-standing issues through responsible and progressive investments in Massachusetts’ transportation system. He also crafted major legislative packages in the areas of health care cost containment, clean energy investments, criminal justice reform and many other aspects of Massachusetts public policy. The Boston Globe called him as "one of the biggest champions of our innovation economy" and he was always a friend and supporter of A Better City, our members, and our mission.
We are thankful for Speaker DeLeo contributions and wish him the best in his next role at Northeastern University.
