A Vision for 2008

Ensure that a high quality park and viable civic space in the Rose Kennedy Greenway realizes its full potential in public use and civic engagement, and ensure that cultural and civic use of the Greenway works to enliven adjacent open spaces

  • Ensure that operations, maintenance and programming of the Greenway open spaces achieve high standards of quality
  • Support governance, finance, and management policies and protocols that ensure long and effective use of Greenway and adjacent spaces
  • Enable the active engagement of abutters and stakeholders in the operations and management of the Greenway and adjacent public spaces, and support the successful development of proposed civic and cultural uses


Support economic development and solidify Boston’s competitive advantage through incremental implementation of the Urban Ring, allowing growth and development in areas otherwise be inhibited by congestion, lack of connections and mobility constraints

  • Direct the Urban Ring Citizens Advisory Committee to outcomes that support advancement of Phase 2 through final environmental review, establishing the framework for incremental implementation of the overall project
  • Identify and advocate for funding and finance strategies that support advancement of the Urban Ring project
  • Solidify and mobilize support for the Urban Ring to ensure continuing advancement of the project


Advance Silver Line Phase 3 to improve mobility, enable connections, encourage South Boston Waterfront development, and connect Washington Street to the South Boston Waterfront, Logan Airport and the MBTA services

  • Advance Silver Line Phase 3 as a federal New Starts project through the work of the ABC Silver Line Phase 3 Business and Institutional Committee
  • Ensure continued political support for project, and work with stakeholders and partners to ensure the success and buy-in of the Preliminary Engineering and Final Design processes


Enable the forward momentum of ABC priorities by successfully advocating for additional revenues for transportation in the Commonwealth. Help ensure the efficient and effective governance of the Commonwealth’s transportation agencies

Complete any remaining elements of the Central Artery / Tunnel Project in a manner that maximizes the benefits of the investment and realizes the full potential of the project

  • Work with the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority (MTA) and the City of Boston to ensure that outstanding elements of the project are constructed to high standards
  • Work with the MTA to put in place operations and management protocols that ensure long and effective service
  • Support implementation of the Stem to Stern Review findings

 

Continue to demonstrate how transportation investment is critical to sustaining the competitive advantage of Metropolitan Boston’s growing life sciences cluster and the region overall and realize the implementation of the recommendations advanced in ABC’s Life Sciences Study and the 2006 economic stimulus bill

Support the City of Boston Crossroads Initiative to create 21st Century streets that realize the maximum potential of the Rose Kennedy Greenway and enhance the city’s public realm

  • Provide technical assistance to the City of Boston on designs, plans, engineering, and construction management
  • Engage abutters in design and construction of the project
  • Work with utility members to reduce project impacts while realizing the best design possible for the street


Support prioritization and coordination among rehabilitation projects currently being studied in the Charles River Basin

  • Work with partner organizations on the development of a synchronization study that takes into account stakeholder objectives and is well-coordinated with planning for other projects such as the Urban Ring
  • Advocate for prioritization and phasing strategies for the Charles River Basin projects that maintain transportation capacity and can be mitigated to minimize disruption throughout the impacted areas
  • Advocate for resources to complete priority projects in the Charles River Basin in an orderly, efficient manner


Shape transportation and land development opportunities that help realize the full economic development potential of the South Boston Waterfront by keeping members and other stakeholders engaged in efforts to improve transportation access

Successfully develop and launch the Sustainability & Climate Change Initiative, developing a forum to educate and inform member businesses and institutions on and promote implementation of best practices in sustainability and climate change

Work with area employers, retailers, property managers, business owners, and public agencies to promote the use of alternative transportation by Boston employees through the Transportation Management Assocation ’s various commute options programs

Continue to maintain and improve the quality of MBTA service through the work of TransitWorks
